Mike Latour, a 31-year-old account executive, won the $200 No-Limit Hold’em Event #2 of the 2016 Seneca Niagara Falls Summer Slam. The tournament, which had a guaranteed prize pool of $50,000, kicked off on July 22nd and ended on July 24th. Over the first two days, four starting flights were featured, and then a third day of play.
Latour, who is an occasional online poker player, managed to make his way from the leaderboard’s bottom at the event’s final table to the top, earning the first-place prize. The latter amounted to a total of $21,246.
To get to the first place, Latour succeeded in defeating more than 560 other players. The 31-year-old New-Yorker is an occasional poker player and enters various tournaments every now and then. His total tournament winnings amount to a little more than $50,000, including his latest win.
The chip lead at the final table had been held by Blake Napierala, who unfortunately ended up on the wrong end of three big hands after Cara Brewer busted on 10th place. Napierala finished on the ninth position, followed by John Stempien, who busted in eight. Then, Tomasz Werstler was sent to the seventh position by Latour, while the chip lead was taken by Rodolfo Navas.
John Houening was busted in sixth by Thomas Mader who flopped a set of jacks. Latour, on the other hand, steadily proceeded to the final four after busting in Abe Reinhardt fifth. He also managed to deal with Matt Devins, sending him on the fourth position and getting as close as possible to Navas.
The final three saw Thomas Mader, Rodolfo Navas and Mike Latour, and after Mader was sent home not long afterwards, Latour had to face Navas heads-up. Mader got a $8,610 prize for his third position, while Navas was granted with $12,988 for his runner-up place after being defeated by Latour.
For several days now the poker room at the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel has been the gathering place of a large number of players originating not only from New York, but also from the entire country.
The Event #2 of this year’s Seneca Niagara Falls Summer Slam festival turned out to be attractive for a great number of players. The massive number of entries (563) generated a total prize pool amounting to $92,378. At the end, this sum was divided among 54 finishers who competed at the event’s final table.
